Security and hand baggage

100ml liquid limit temporarily reintroduced at Jersey Airport

From 00:01 on Sunday 9th June 2024, restrictions on carrying liquids over 100ml in hand luggage are being temporarily reintroduced at all UK airports, including Jersey Airport.

Advice for passengers

  • Liquids, aerosols, gels, or pastes may be carried through Security where the maximum volume of any individual container being carried is no greater than 100ml and the content is not frozen.
  • All liquids, aerosols, gels and pastes carried in hand luggage will have to be removed and placed in the security trays for screening. There is no need to place them in a separate tray or in a plastic bag.
  • Where liquids, gels or pastes in containers greater than 100ml are required for medical purposes or a special dietary requirement for medical purposes, these will be subjected to additional screening methods.

Security

New CT scanners have been installed at Jersey Airport, so you can leave liquids and electronics in your hand baggage to go through Security. Further screening or bag search is sometimes required to comply with UK National Aviation Security regulations.

Until this new screening equipment is rolled out more widely, please check what you can take through Security at every airport you are travelling through, as the rules may be different at each one.

Checklist for travellers

  • All liquids, aerosols, gels and pastes carried in hand luggage will have to be removed and placed in the security trays for screening. There is no need to place them in a separate tray or in a plastic bag
  • If you have more than one electronic device, leave one in your bag and place any others in a separate tray
  • Only one cigarette lighter is allowed per person
  • Declare any camera film to the Security Officer before it enters the CT scanner
  • Follow the security officer’s instructions
  • Allow plenty of time to go through Check-in and Security, especially during busy periods. Check your ticket or contact your airline for specific advice on checking-in times.

Security body scanners

New body scanners have been installed, providing an additional layer of security. Before going through the scanners, please: –

  • Empty pockets of everything – including tissues, passports, phones, and boarding passes
  • Remove belts, digital watches and chunky jewellery
  • The machines can scan people who are 1-2 metres in height. Anyone outside these parameters will need to be searched by hand

  • Collect your trays after screening and repack in the specified area
  • Return your empty tray(s) to the tray return system

Frequently asked questions

Are the new body scanners safe?

They are a completely safe method of screening passengers, including passengers with pacemakers and those who are pregnant.

Should I be scanned if I have an insulin pump?

This is the official advice if travelling with an insulin pump: Pump Statements

What does this mean for aviation security?

The UK and Channel Islands have a robust aviation security regime, but we want to remain at the forefront of aviation security by introducing this ground-breaking technology.

Why was my bag searched?

The CT scanner will reject a bag if it cannot identify the contents. A search by a security officer will then be required.

There are no changes to the rules on carrying dangerous goods.
